Acupuncture is safe

when practiced by a Licensed Acupuncturist (L.Ac.) with a graduate degree in Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine.

Because of acupuncture's efficacy and growing popularity, many other professions are beginning to advertise 'acupuncture' or 'needling techniques', some without legal right. When used negligently or by a practitioner without adequate training, acupuncture tools pose a health risk. We advise patients to ask any practitioner they see about their training, licensure, and safety track record for acupuncture.

"Although there are certification courses offered to medical doctors to learn acupuncture, preferably, the practitioner will be trained in a TCM program to be maximally qualified. An understanding and background in TCM is important in achieving optimal results with acupuncture. Look for acupuncture practitioners who have thorough knowledge and training in this modality of treatment and who specialize in TCM or acupuncture as their primary form of treatment."
